In 1955, the grandchildren of John W. McCrillis partnered with the Mt. Sunapee Area Club to recognize and show appreciation to those in our area who have dedicated their time and effort to support the sport of skiing.  At each year's recipient is recognized, we are reminded of the dedication and commitment that Mr. McCrillis had to this great sport and community.  We feel fortunate to have the opportunity to honor these individuals who carry on the same spirit.

John W. McCrillis, a member of the United States Ski Hall of Fame, was a skiing pioneer. This award is given in his honor to pay tribute to local people who have contributed to the sport of skiing.

2019 recipient
Garry George

Proctor Ski Area is manned and operated by Garry George.  He is the man who keeps things in tip top shape.  Whether it be lift jumps, snow lodge , or coaching, Garry is behind everything that makes Proctor Ski Area a successful gem.  In his earlier days, he could be found racing at ragged Mountain, King Ridge, and Pats Peak.  He skied fast, winning a Giant Slalom race at Attitash over a man who held the world's speed record at over 100 mph.  When Garry was appointed manager of the previously - named Blackwater Ski Area in 1982, he became the ski team coach and the "jack of all trades", improving the ski area and helping many aspects of the Proctor community.  He has spent endless hours with athletes and community members training and encouraging them to be the best they can be.
